Planned Outcomes

The initiative is convening a year-long seminar on ‘The Medieval Black Sea’ at Princeton University during 2022-2023. This will be followed by a conference on ‘Black Sea Migrations in the Long Thirteenth Century: Bodies, Things, Ideas’. The conference will be accompanied by an exhibition of coins at the Firestone Library – with a special emphasis on the exceptionally rich material from Cherson held in the university’s Special Collections.

In addition, a collection of new research as well as a compilation of resources for teaching and learning (e.g. bibliographies, syllabi, expert interviews) will be published. A Digital Humanities component and a Public Engagement initiative are forthcoming.

We are indebted to Princeton’s Center for Collaborative History for hosting this initiative and also to our sponsors.
